Empowering Teachers, Transforming Classrooms, and Learning Along the Way
When I first stood in front of a classroom as an ICT teacher, I knew I loved technology. But what I didn’t yet realize was how powerful it could be—not just for students, but for fellow teachers, schools, and entire communities. That realization sparked a journey that has shaped who I am today: an EduTech facilitator, passionate about helping others unlock the power of digital tools in education.
This is my story.
From Teacher to Trainer
Like many educators, I started with traditional teaching methods—chalkboards, textbooks, and printed handouts. But as the world shifted and more schools began exploring digital platforms, I realized that technology wasn’t just a support—it was a game changer.
I started integrating basic tools like:
- PowerPoint for lessons
- Excel for class marks
- YouTube videos for visual learning
- Google Docs for creating and sharing notes
The more I explored, the more I wanted to share. That desire to help fellow teachers grow in digital confidence is what led me to become a facilitator.
My First Workshop: Small Start, Big Impact
My first training session happened in a small staffroom with limited devices, but a big appetite for learning. We covered cloud storage, digital lesson plans, and simple tools like Google Forms. The smiles and breakthroughs I saw that day showed me that change starts small—but the impact grows fast.
“I didn’t know I could do this!” one teacher said after creating her first quiz using Google Forms. That moment changed everything for me.
Facilitating Across Uganda: A National Impact
Since then, I’ve had the honor of facilitating numerous EduTech workshops across the country, in collaboration with schools, ministries, NGOs, and tech communities. Some of the highlights from my facilitation journey include:
- 🏫 1-week Headteachers Workshop at St. Maria Goretti Katende (organized by the Ministry of Education)

- Digital Skills Toolkit Workshops (organized by UNICEF and Refactory, held across central and northern Uganda)

- ICT Empowerment Workshop for Teachers (by PEAS Uganda)

- ICT Capacity Development Workshops (organized by ITAU – ICT Teachers Association of Uganda)
- ICT Integration Workshops (by Edify Uganda and Sharebility Uganda)
- Online EduTech Workshops for Teachers (organized by Sharebility Uganda)
- Capacity Development Workshops for Teachers (hosted by Bugema Adventist Secondary School)
- …and many more across various schools and digital platforms
These experiences have allowed me to interact with educators at every level—headteachers, classroom teachers, ICT champions, and even non-ICT specialists—all united by a desire to do better for their learners.
Supporting Teachers Through My YouTube Channel
To keep the learning going beyond the workshops, I created my YouTube channel, where I share free, hands-on EduTech tutorials. These videos help teachers:
- Learn at their own pace
- Revisit training topics
- Share new skills with colleagues
- Apply tools practically in their classrooms
Popular topics include:
- Creating Google Forms for assessment
- Formatting documents in Google Docs
- Designing slides for digital lessons
- Recording your own lesson videos with a smartphone
This online platform has allowed me to extend my reach to teachers beyond physical workshops, including those in remote schools or self-taught environments.
Challenges and Triumphs
Like any journey, mine hasn’t been without hurdles. I’ve faced:
- Schools with no internet or power
- Teachers who feared breaking the computer
- Limited budgets for devices and software
- Varied skill levels within one group
But each challenge taught me how to be flexible, patient, and creative. I’ve used simulations, translated instructions, used mobile-first strategies—and above all, made teachers feel safe to learn, try, fail, and try again.
“It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being brave enough to begin.”
Why This Work Matters
I continue this work because I believe:
- Every teacher can become digitally confident
- Every learner deserves to thrive in a tech-enabled world
- And every school, no matter how rural or under-resourced, can innovate
Being an EduTech facilitator is more than training—it’s about building a community of empowered educators, each capable of transforming their classrooms one digital step at a time.
Final Thoughts: From One Educator to Another
If you’re a teacher reading this and you feel unsure about technology—know that you’re not alone. I started with the basics, too. What matters most is your willingness to grow.
As an EduTech facilitator, I’ve witnessed the power of progress, passion, and peer support. I’ve seen chalkboards blend with Chromebooks, printed notes enhanced by Google Slides, and hesitant teachers become local tech champions.
“Technology opens doors. Teachers hold the keys.”
Let’s keep unlocking possibilities—together.
